Adaption of "Mirror," By Sylvia Plath
I am silver and exact.
no preconceptions
Whatever I see
I devour
Just as it is,
By love or dislike.
I am not cruel,
Only truthful
The eye of a little god,
Four-cornered.
I dwelled on the lie
I looked at it for so long
I think it is part of my heart
But it flickers
Faces and darkness
Over and over
Now I am someone else
Searching the bowels of hell
For what I really am
I turn to those liars,
The candles and the moon
I see I'm back,
And reflect it faithfully.
Reward me with tears
And agitation
I was important to me
I come
And I go
Morning replaces the darkness.
In me, she suppressed a young girl,
And in me is an old woman who
Rises toward her day after day,
Like a deadly wish
Whatever I see
I devour
In the mirror,
I see the woman
I Devoured
